Infographics on the processes in the cattle industry
Hoe de Koe (How the Cow) is a self-initiated project about the cattle industry in the Netherlands. There seems to be more consciousness about our food production, but how do the processen in this industry really go? And why do you contribute to the meat industry by eating a vegetarian diet? Because the cow is the best known part of Dutch identity, I started with her. What exactly goes in the cow and what products come out? I visited several farmers to observe their processen and did written research. In the end I made this infographic illustration of 1 by 1 meter. You can follow what happens with the cow and her children. With this project I hope to contribute to more transparency in our food production, by learning about it in an accessible way.

Hoe de Koe is een eigen geïnitieerd project over de vee-industrie in Nederland. Er lijkt steeds meer bewustzijn over ons voedsel te ontstaan, maar hoe gaan de processen in deze industrie nou echt? En hoe komt het dat je met een vegetarisch dieet toch onbewust bijdraag aan de vleesindustrie? Omdat de koe het dier is dat het meeste met de Nederlandse identiteit wordt geassocieerd, begon ik met haar. Wat gaat er precies in de koe en welke producten komen er uit de koe? Ik ben bij verschillende boeren langs geweest om hun proces te observeren en heb schriftelijk onderzoek gedaan. Uiteindelijk kun je op deze infographic illustratie van 1 bij 1 meter volgen wat er met de koe gebeurd, en met haar kinderen, een stierkalf (mannelijk kalf) of een vaarskalf (vrouwelijk kalf). Met dit project hoop ik bij de dragen aan de transparantie van ons voedselsysteem, door op een toegankelijke manier hierover te leren.
